IHL delivers stress and structural analysis in support of airframe certification, including the assessment of fatigue and damage tolerance and structural repair limits. We also undertake analysis of wing structures under various conditions in support of certification.

We cover diagnosis of mechanical failures in structures and system components as well as development and improvement of airframe structural analysis methodologies. Our project management structure has been designed to be flexible, allowing us to adapt to large programmes or small projects. As a preferred supplier to some of the largest Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), we manage the design engineering supply chain, coordinating our own activities and those of other suppliers. We control and manage the flow of technical data in multiple-package work programmes, including the check stress programme for the passenger/ military aircrafts. Such management involves the identification and mitigation of programme, commercial and technical risks, while providing the client with assistance in managing these risks. For small projects, our ability to effectively resource a diverse range of technical challenges stems from our roots as a multi-disciplinary consultancy.
Technically we are at the forefront of developments in composite structures, supporting the current large-scale introduction of composites into primary structures on large civil and military transports. We are involved in partnerships to develop the next generation of composite commercial aircraft wings. We are also participating in design and engineering research studies to assess novel airframe configurations to accommodate composite material strength and fabrication characteristics Mean while, we are developing proactively, with our clients, tools to support harmonized stress analysis capability in these areas. Our expertise in structural dynamics has been exploited in the design of space structures, and our growing manufacturing design capability has been highlighted by our involvement in research into innovative techniques in the manufacture of rotating machinery for gas turbines.
